Bosnia: Past Programs

Global Operations and Development (GO&D), with Giving Children Hope-Bosnia (GCH-B), has been implementing relief and development programs in Bosnia since 1996. In recent years, past programs were focused on community development and health promotion and have included:

   Chicken and Egg Farm

GO&D with GCH-B established a chicken and egg farm to provide orphans from the Dom Porodica Orphanage with a means of self-sufficiency. In cooperation with the Municipality of Zenica's Department of Social Services, and located in the town's Crkvice District, the farm was administered from April 2002-May 2003 and involved children participants of GO&D's Father's House program. The farm was designed to accommodate 1500 chickens and their eggs - which were produced for resale on Zenica's open market providing beneficiaries with an income while also stimulating the city's economy.

   Internet Club

The GO&D/GCH-B run internet club was open from October 2002-December 2003, and then from February 2004-May 2004. The internet club provided orphans and students with a place to use the internet, allowing them access to global information and technology and linking them to a wider community. Following the final closing of the club, the computers were distributed to area schools and orphanages.

   Free Medical Clinic:

Partnered with the State Department and the International Red Cross, GO&D with GCH-B, established a free medical clinic that operated from August 2000 to December 2003. Two doctor/nurse teams were employed with one team working out of the medical clinic and the other making home and field (refugee camps, remote villages) visits. The program reached out to a large population of underserved Bosnians, aiding thousands annually.

   Mobile Clinic on Wheels:

In association with the Social Department of the Bosnian government, GO&D and GCH-B developed the "Mobile Clinic on Wheels" program to provide destitute families with food packets and hygiene kits. The Mobile Clinic ran from October 2001-December 2003 - and served a core group of 300 families that were visited and served every two months.
